Married: Elizabeth [_____] Hoyt (b. abt 1860, NY) abt 1902, NY (This was a second marriage for Elizabeth.)

Children: The Hoyt children are John's stepchildren and Elizabeth's children by a prior marriage to Mr. Hoyt. Elizabeth had 10 children altogether and apparently only John^9 was the biological child of both John and Elizabeth. In the 1910 census only 5 of Elizabeth's 10 children are still living presumably Madeleine, Clara, Minnie, Eliza, and John.

5 June 1917 WWI Draft Registration, Brooklyn, NY lists John Van Wickel of 49 Meeker Ave., Brooklyn, NY b. 5 Aug 1895, Brooklyn (He signs his name "John Van Wickel") Occupation listed as elevator operator for NY Dock Co. and he is single, white, tall, medium build with brown hair and eyes.

1920 US Census for Brooklyn, District 19, Kings, NY lists Helen H. Van Wickel, head, 70, widow, b. NY (NY, NY), no occupation, with son, John L. Van Wickel, 55, married, b. NY (NJ, NY), painter, Violet Van Duzer, dau., 40, married, b. NY (NJ, NY), and Viola Van Duzer, granddau., 18, NY (NY, NY), paster.

1928 - Ellen C. Van Wickel, notice in Brooklyn Standard Unior Obits June 4, 1928. She died in her home at 553 Quincy St., Brooklyn, NY at age 80. A life resident of Brooklyn--survived by 3 sons, John, Charles and Louis Van Wickel and 2 daughters, Mrs. Violet Van Duzer and Mrs. Florence Keith. Interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery. At the residence next door: Charles Van Winkel, head, 60, married at age 21, brass worker in brass factory, with wife, Mary, 60, married at age 21, no occ., son, George, 22, single, runner on Wall Street, and Thurston, son, 19, single, lynotype at Merganthals. At residence next door:  Violet Krause, mother, 33, widow, silk worker in silk factory with dau., Viola, 12, single, porter at hospital, and Thomas Roach, roomer, 59, married at age 25, plumber (day work).
